DC Sticks and Bars

My friend, Premila Mistry, is hard at work building her new group, DC Sticks and Bars. A few months I received this video of her group performing Manhanga (Pumpkin). It is a traditional Zimbabwean piece arranged by Paul Mataruse. I asked Premila where she gets her music from. She gets much of it from Bonnie Carol at www.bonniecarol.com . All the pieces are in the Zimbabwean style and can be played on any of the Shona style marimbas.

I hope you enjoy this piece. The two 3.5 octave marimbas you see in the video were built by myself. Every once in a while, you can see in the lower left corner a couple of 2 octave marimbas that I built also. It makes me happy to be able to be a part of DC Sticks and Bars.

When you are ready to start a marimba group, or would like them for your classroom, don’t hesitate to contact me.
