Welcome to Turner Marimbas

You may have seen a site similar to this one called Zimba Marimbas. Well, it looks similar because we are currently one and the same. I began Zimba Marimbas about a year and a half ago. Zimba is a catchy name and has its roots in the Zimbabwean tradition of marimba music. The only problem is, there is another entity out there called Zimba Marimba. In fact there are two; although one of them no longer exists.

There was a marimba band in the Portland, Oregon area called the Zimba Marimba band. However, they no longer exist, but on their website, they have indicated that they have hopes of starting back up again.

There is also a marimba group in Sweden called the Zimba Marimba band, headed by Peta Aselsson. Her group has been around for several years and is still going strong.

So, rather than cause confusion; and since I am the late comer, I feel it is my responsibility to make a change. That is why I have decided to make the change from Zimba Marimbas, to Turner Marimbas. There will be much less confusion now and in the future. I hope this has not caused too much anguish on the part of those involved in the other groups. I meant no harm. Perhaps in the future, we may even have the opportunity to work together.

Now that you know a little more about me, take a look at my site. This site is a work in progress. If you need more information than you see here, you might want to check out the old site, www.zimbamarimbas.com. It will still be up until February.
